Bad News

The cancer has spread to my sternum. There is also some small specks in my lung. We are in shock this afternoon and have very heavy hearts. We just want a break - some good news.

I will no longer start with chemotherapy. The first objective is to hit the sternum with radiation therapy, and to shut my ovaries down with drug therapy. We will learn more once we meet with the radiation oncologist - hopefully by the end of the week.

I pray:
God, I know you hear our prayers. And although they are not being answered the way we are praying, we know you are in control. Lord, please allow the radiation to kill the cancer in my sternum, allow the drugs to quickly shut down my ovaries, and remove the specks in my lungs. Give us hope and understanding in this time of no understanding, and bless me with a long quality of life with Carman. May you grant us this time together here on earth to glorify you. And if it is your will is to take me home early, please provide peace to those who love me.

Lord, I pray for my family and friends who do not know you. May they too accept Christ into their lives so they can be assured of eternal life - I want to see them in heaven.

Oh Brenda I was so devastated to hear of this news! I have been thinking about you so much this week as I had to write a paper on my childhood and you were such a wonderful part of that. Please let us know if we can do anything, would you like me to put you on the prayer list at the United Church (I have an "in" there you know!) I take comfort in knowing how strong you have been and will continue to be! Take comfort in your faith. We will be praying hard for you!
Love and Prayers, Jaimie

He is still with you....as close as your heartbeat, as close as your breath - even tho this day is shadowed by fear and uncertainty He is with you! We pray daily for both you and Carman that the Great Physician will continue to give you peace that passes all comprehension.
Stay strong - ....."a cord of 3 strands is not easily broken" Eccl.4:12

Brenda, you don't know me, and I don't know you, but I stumbled upon this blog and wanted you to know that there is no number to the people you are affecting. You are beautiful, positive, and a shining example for all of us. You will be added to the prayers of my family and we will tell many others about you as well. Your faith is a beautiful thing. You are in our thoughts and prayers. Chelsea

I don't know you Brenda, I stumbled across a link which brought me here and I just wanted to say, that you're not only touching people you know, you're touching people you've never met. You're spirit and joy are an inspiration, and you're faith is beautiful. You've moved me today and I thank you for that...and you now have more prayers coming your way. Hi Brenda, Dale called us last night to tell us the sad news about the cancer spreading to your sternum. He also told us that you had a blog. As i have read about your journey, I have been encouraged, inspired, made glad, and made sad all in one reading. You are an amazing writer and it is courageous of you to share so openly about the intimacies of this journey you are on. I was privileged and humbled to walk with a close friend through much of her journey and I can honestly say that I found the Cross to be a place of hope and joy. Sometimes words seem inadequate, but our prayer for you is that you shall be surrounded by love, lifted by prayer, lightened of your burden, and above all else sustained as you rest in the arms of Christ. Carman shall reside in our prayers as well. His is a difficult road too.
With love and prayers, Delmar & Ellen and the family

Hi Brenda,
First off, I cannot believe you are 31!!! You will always be 'little Brenda' from down the street!
Jaimie passed along the challenges you are facing. I was so sorry to hear that you are going through this unreal time in your lives... I can't imagine how this road feels but I can tell from your writing and all the responses how loved and prayed for you are! You will be taken good care of!
Sending our prayers your way (and up too!!!)

Hi Brenda and Carman,

I, along with many others, have been praying for you both and it has been a prayer for complete healing as well as for comfort and strength. I know this is not what you have been praying for but you inspire me with your continued faith and trust that God is in control. You're amazing! I continue to pray and think of you both often. There is no limit to God's power and I know He can heal this cancer! Nicole Laliberte
